What is MUN?
Model United Nations (MUN), is a simulation of the United Nations in which students research global problems and propose solutions from the perspectives of different countries. MUN conferences have been held since the 1950s and thousands of students participate in such conferences all over the world.
Attendance at MUN conferences offers participants exercise in research, writing, speaking, and listening. Participants also find inspiration and confidence to make a positive difference in the world and make lasting friendships with other participants.
What are the benefits of participating in MUN?
In addition to the many academic skills developed and improved through participation in MUN, students will be able to make connections with other students in Romania, learn about the United Nations and its work, and add an excellent experience to their CVs.
Where will IASIMUN be held?
IASIMUN will be held at the National College, “Emil Racovita.” The school is conveniently located in the Podu Ros neighborhood at Aleea Nicolina Nr. 4
Can students outside Romania also participate?
Of course, the conference is open to all high-school level students! However, all students outside Iasi must pay their own transport, while suitable housing will be found here either for free through host families in Iasi or in a hotel for an amount of money with teacher supervision. Fun activities could also be found if we are notified in advance.
Where will I stay if I want to attend IASIMUN but I do not live in Iasi?
The IASIMUN team will be responsible for arranging a homestay for non-local participants. Your host will be the family of a high school student in Iasi and they will be responsible for your meals (apart from lunch, which is provided at the conference) and assuring that you can get to the conference site on time. Since hosts are volunteering their time and resources, guests are expected to be respectful and courteous. Some students will also be offered the option of staying at a hotel, where IASIMUN has negotiated a discount rate. Accepted students will be contacted individually regarding this option.
How much does it cost to participate in IASIMUN?
Early Applicants (up to 30th September):
Late Applicants (after 30th September):
FOR FOREIGN DELEGATES (regardless of the application date): 40 EURO (approx. 170 RON)
Note: There are no conference fees for Peace Corps volunteers
What happens if, for various reasons, a delegate quits after being chosen?
It may happen for a delegate to quit before the conference. We request that you inform us as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made in time (perhaps the designated country was an important one and needs to be reassigned to someone else). Also, the conference fee is 50 % refundable only if this occurs within one week after the payment of the tax (if it happens earlier, there is no withdrawal fee). The tax is non-refundable one week after tax payment deadline.
Important!
For all participants who are non-Iasi residents and do not have a place to stay in Iasi, accommodations will be provided either for free by host families in Iasi or in a school dormitory or hotel with teacher supervision at their price, according to preference.
How do I prepare for an MUN conference?
The IASIMUN staff will send you resources and offer training assistance as you prepare for the conference. Training seminars will also be held in Iasi and possibly other regions of Romania (to be determined). Each student will also be expected to use the IASIMUN website, links, and forum to independently research their country and topics. Be prepared to spend at least 4 hours per week preparing for the conference.
What are the requirements to get into this conference?
The basic requirements for admission into the conference include:
In addition, we will consider your teamwork abilities, experience in debate and other English language activities, and motivations for joining MUN.
Are there a limited number of positions at the conference?
Our goal is to accept as many students as possible that demonstrate genuine interest in MUN and high skill levels. Although we have some constraints in capacity for participants, we will do everything within reason to accept all qualified applicants.
What language is used at IASIMUN?
The official language of IASIMUN is English. All sessions, resolutions, and notes between delegates must be in English. This is designed to maximize the language practice for all participants. There will be numerous English teachers and US Peace Corps volunteers at the conference to assist in any language issues.
Will delegates be awarded diplomas?

However, you must protect your property and never leave your computer unattended. IASIMUN cannot be held responsible for the private property of delegates. There will also be computers at the conference available for use, so it is not essential to have your own computer.
